Falling standards?
Shocking but true. Just the other day, there was this report http://in.news.yahoo.com/071113/48/6n5h8.html that not one of the top 200 universities in the world is Indian. What do you feel about this dismal state of our academic affairs? The day this report I appeared, I happened to be talking to a dynamic professor-friend of mine. He had a curious counter that at least 100 of those universities have Indian teachers. Willing to be happily corrected, I invited him to record his point here. That I thought could be an appropriate way of inaugurating discussion on this forum. While accommodating his view, I somehow cannot escape the feeling that the professor’s answer may not completely eliminate the nagging doubts skeptics like me have about the prevailing standards in most of our universities.
